A new beginning to life after removing 40-cm dumbbell shaped tumor - This is Namith’s Story

Namith had already been through a long health journey. After undergoing a kidney transplant, he was slowly rebuilding his life—focusing on recovery, taking his medications regularly, and looking ahead with hope for a renewed life.

About a year later, he noticed a swelling. At first, he didn’t pay much attention to it. But over time, it grew rapidly and began to cause discomfort and pain.

Since Namith had undergone his kidney transplant at AINU, he decided to consult the doctors there. After a thorough evaluation, the diagnosis was shocking - a 40 cm tumour, large and frightening in size. Being on immunosuppressant medications made the situation even more challenging.

At one point, Namith felt like quitting. He wondered if his problems would ever end. There were moments when he felt like giving up. But before losing hope, he decided to place his trust in the doctors who have given him a new life through kidney transplant before.

Given his condition as a kidney transplant recipient on immunosuppressive drugs, conventional treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy were not suitable. Surgery was the only viable option.

After careful planning and preparation for both surgery and anaesthesia, Namith underwent a complex surgical procedure under general anaesthesia. The surgical approach focused on safely removing the tumour while reducing the risk of spread to surrounding lymph nodes. The dumbbell-shaped tumour, measuring nearly 40 cm, was successfully removed with minimal blood loss.

“Testicular tumours are seen in young men, but it is very rare to encounter such a large tumour extending into the abdomen,” said Dr. Rajesh, Consultant Uro-Oncologist at AINU’s Centre for Uro-Oncology.

Namith’s recovery was steady, and he was discharged on the third day after surgery. With every follow-up visit, his confidence grew. The fear that once dominated his thoughts gradually gave way to relief and strength.

Today, Namith is doing well and looking ahead with renewed hope. His journey is a reminder that even after facing major health challenges, the right care at the right time can truly change lives.
